Music for Life Newsletter - Term Two 2018

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Kia ora tātou kātoa - Matariki arrived on June 15th and as we think about what this means - harvest and productivity, but also celebrations family and friends, music can play an important part and also needs to be nurtured.

Whāngaia ka tupu, ka puāwai
That which is nurtured, grows and blossoms

We’d like to welcome Angela Frank to RMS as our JUMP tutor. Angela has been involved with the school for a few years as a mum and committee member. She also has a passion for teaching and learning music so if you have any whanau members who may be a bit young for an instrument but enjoy music please get in touch to find out more about our JUMP programme. At this stage classes are planned for Wednesday afternoons at 3:30.

Anna is heading away before the end of this term but will be making up lessons when she returns next term. This may take a little while as she has a number of students to work through, so please be patient - she will definitely get there.

Brenda will also be finishing a wee bit early as she leaves to have her baby. Brenda also plans to make up any missed sessions with her students throughout the rest of the year. Please join us in wishing her all the best on the arrival of her new family member!

If you have any questions or concerns with regard to our tutors or sessions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Jackie on 021.1959.44 or

There are a number of events taking place around Rotorua for Matariki, including some of our ukulele students out and about, so please support them if you see them. More information about what is happening is available on the council website. http://www.rotorualakescouncil.nz/our-city/whats-on/Documents/2018_Matariki_Event-Guide.pdf

Rotorua Music School has a 32 week year. The way we structure this in relation to the four school terms is 9-9-9-5. So that’s nine weeks of music lessons for the first three terms, and five in the fourth, trying to minimise disruption to what is usually a busy school term. This term our lessons finish on June 28th and will start back up on July 24th.

Our next committee meeting is planned for Wednesday, July 11th, 6 p.m. at Abracadabra. Meetings are around an hour long but are important to keep things ticking over and satisfy our Ministry of Education and Charities Commission requirements.
If you’re keen to come along please keep an eye on our Facebook page so we can advise you if there are any changes to the date.
